MDNA NMBR1

‘MDNA’, Madonna’s twelfth studio album, lands at No1 on this week’s album chart, giving the world’s best-selling female artist of all time a third consecutive No1 in Ireland, following ‘Hard Candy’ in 2008 and the compilation ‘Celebration’ in 2009. In the process she deposes fellow American legend Bruce Springsteen, whose ‘Wrecking Ball’ drops to No4.

Definitely Maybe

Carly Rae Jepsen climbs four places from No5 to No1 with ‘Call Me Maybe’, seizing the Singles Chart crown from Gotye who slips to No2 after five weeks at the top with ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ (feat. Kimbra). She’s the first Canadian artist to top this chart since Avril Lavigne in 2007 with ‘Girlfriend’.

Bruce Fends Off Chieftains Challenge

The Chieftains mark their 50th anniversary by debuting at No2 on this week’s Album Chart with ‘Voice Of Ages’, failing to dislodge Bruce Springsteen who takes a second week at the top with ‘Wrecking Ball’, but achieving their highest position since 1999 when ‘Tears Of Stone’ spent two weeks at No1. In common with ‘Tears Of Stone’, ‘Voice Of Ages’ features collaborations with a wide range of musicians across different genres.

Bruce Takes A Swing At The Chart

Nearly forty years after the release of his debut ‘Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ’, Bruce Springsteen releases his 17th studio album ‘Wrecking Ball’ this week and sees it sail straight to the top of the Album Chart – his third consecutive No1 following ‘Magic’ (2007) and ‘Working On A Dream’ (2009).

Many Happy Returns

After two weeks at No1 followed by two weeks at No2, Gotye returns to the top of the Singles Chart this week with ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ (feat. Kimbra). The last song to return to No1 was Jessie J’s ‘Price Tag’ exactly a year ago, deposed for one week by Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’.
