Rihanna’s Umbrella Puts The Rest In The Shade

The rapid turnover at the top of the Singles Chart continues this week, as Rihanna has the fifth different chart-topper in as many weeks with ‘Umbrella’ (feat Jay-Z), up from No8. With the CD scheduled for release today (25th May), Rihanna has the distinction of becoming only the second artist to top the Irish chart on downloads alone, following 21 Demands ‘Just A Minute’ back in March. ‘Umbrella’ is her sixth Top 20 hit from six releases in Ireland, but the first to make it to No1: ‘Pon De Replay’ and ‘Unfaithful’ both stalled at No2. more


Perfect Timing For Linkin Park

Linkin Park debut at No1 on the Album Chart this week with their third studio album ‘Minutes To Midnight’, four years after their previous studio album ‘Meteora’ performed a similar feat in March 2003. Their first album ‘Hybrid Theory’ and their more recent collaboration with Jay-Z ‘Collision Course’ both peaked at No6 in 2001 and 2005 respectively. more

Arctic Monkeys have a third week at No1 on the Album Chart with ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’, matching the 3-week residency at the top for ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not’ last year. more


Divas Bounce Back

With the Top 6 singles all registering a decline in sales this week, Beyoncé and Shakira return to the top of the Singles Chart by default with ‘Beautiful Liar’. Avril Lavigne’s ‘Girlfriend’ – the top-selling CD single this week – holds at No2 for a third week, ahead of Timbaland’s ‘Give It To Me’ at No3 – the top-selling download for a third consecutive week. more
