Calvin Goes With The Flo

Calvin Harris makes a not-so-unlucky 13th appearance in the Irish Singles Chart this week, debuting in pole position with ‘Sweet Nothing’, featuring Florence Welch. This is a second consecutive No1 in Ireland for both artists: Calvin’s ‘We’ll Be Coming Back’ took over at the top from Florence’s ‘Spectrum (Say My Name)’ eleven weeks ago.

Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ does exactly what it says on the tin and plummets seven places to No8, while last week’s three main challengers for the top spot are all non-movers: Swedish House Mafia at No2, Psy at No3 and Rihanna at No4. It’s a great week for Taylor Swift, who now has three tracks in the Top 50 – ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ (back up to No9), ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ (up 13 places to No16) and ‘State Of Grace’ (new at No43). The next new entry is at No22 for Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj with ‘Beauty And A Beat’, an eleventh appearance in the Irish Top 30 for both artists.

Mumford & Sons extend their stay at the top of the Album Chart to four weeks with ‘Babel’ – and for three of those weeks The Script have occupied the runner-up slot with ‘#3’. One Direction climb back to No3 from No12 with ‘Up All Night’, ahead of this week’s highest new entry at No4 for Leona Lewis with ‘Glassheart’. This is her third album, following ‘Spirit’ which was No1 in 2007 and ‘Echo’ which debuted and peaked at No2 in 2009. Similarly Bat For Lashes releases her third album this week and has the next new entry with ‘The Haunted Man’ at No7. Unlike Leona, however, this is her first appearance in the Top 10 – previous best was No17 for her second album ‘Two Suns’. The third and final new entry in the Top 10 is for Nottingham singer-songwriter Jake Bugg with his self-titled debut album at No10.
